Abstract

Inextricably linked to the survival of humanity and other living organisms, the environment stands as an indispensable prerequisite for life, a divine endowment according to the teachings of Islam. The Holy Qur'ān provides explicit instructions on the safeguarding of life, accentuating the significance of the natural environment through numerous verses. Additionally, the revered Prophet Muḥammad, (ﷺ), underscored the importance of preserving trees, living entities, and animals. This research article delves into the historical context, spotlighting the concerted efforts of Muslim rulers, particularly during the era of guided caliphate, to protect the natural environment. In times of conflict and war, these leaders demonstrated a steadfast commitment to environmental conservation. The study aims to elucidate the Islāmic perspective on the crucial role of the natural environment for human well-being and the broader ecosystem, while highlighting the commendable contributions of Muslim rulers in ensuring its protection, even amid challenging circumstances.
