The Role of the Family in the Unity of the Ummah: A Research Study in the Light of Fundamental Sources of Shariah

Abstract

This paper is an analytical study of the role of family regarding unity of nation. It is fact that mutual unity of Muslim Ummah has gained basic importance in every period. Home is the first and foremost training center for humans. If there will be unity among all the members of the family, such a family will be useful for perfect unity. Therefore, before becoming parents, man marries the opposite gender. Sīrat-un-Nabī (ﷺ) provides a just system of rights and duties of both genders. Therefore, with the role of father and mother, best growth and training of offspring may be possible without some exceptions. And divine commandments provide scholastic principles for unity of the family system while Sīrat-un-Nabī (ﷺ) provides practical aspects for guidance. In present era of digitalization, unity of family, training and education of offspring is more required than past times. The reason is that now, we will have to eschew from the side effects of wrong use of social media. And the use of favorable technology became necessary for survival of life, but we will have to use technology by avoiding its dangerous aspects and things. Then we will be able to maintain our family system according to teachings of Islam. Anyhow, in this paper, historical and descriptive methodology has been used. In short, this paper presents details about Islamic family system and effects of social media so that real guidance might be applied.
