The Holy Qur’ān does not present the idea of salvation as limited to an individual alone; rather, it portrays the whole of humanity as part of a historical struggle. The climax of this historical struggle is the call towards Allāh (Da ‘wah ilā Allāh), a responsibility entrusted to the Muslim Ummah from Prophet Adam (peace be upon him) to Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ). According to Dr. Israr Ahmed, understanding the continuity of this call towards Allah is the true objective of understanding the Qur’ān. According to Dr. Israr Ahmed, the purpose of the battles and expeditions (Ghazawāt and Sarāyā) was to establish an organized state system and to raise the Word of Allāh, so that the correct methodology of Islamic propagation could be built upon a proper structure. Thus, the Ghazawāt and Sarāyā were not merely military operations; rather, they were a living example of a collective struggle extending from the individual to the level of society as a whole.
