Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is one of the most significant provinces of Pakistan, distinguished by its unique cultural, social, and historical characteristics. The majority of its population consists of Pashtuns, a nation known for its distinct traditions, values, and social norms. The religious and social attitudes of the people are deeply rooted, and Islamic law and jurisprudence hold a central position in shaping their personal and collective lives. Despite its cultural richness and strong religious foundation, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is confronted with a number of social, economic, familial and judicial challenges which have become major obstacles to the overall progress and development of the region. These problems include widespread poverty, lack of quality education, insufficient healthcare facilities, violation of women’s rights, family disputes, delays in the justice system, and the rising rate of crime. This article, however, focuses specifically on the family and social issues of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Family problems in this province are directly linked to broader societal issues, as social norms, customs, and cultural expectations in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa often hinder the proper implementation of Islamic family laws in their true spirit. Human nature varies, and within society some individuals create complications while others attempt to resolve them. Therefore, the critical investigation of these problems and the search for practical and effective solutions is not only necessary for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, but also important for the development of Pakistan as a whole. For this reason, the present topic is both relevant and essential in contemporary academic and social research.
