A Disciplined State in The Light of Prophetic Teachings: A Research Study

Abstract

Discipline represents the gradual attainment of perfection, embodying a set of rules and boundaries to be honoured and not transgressed. Throughout the universe, every entity achieves its optimal state through unique methods intrinsic to its nature. Rooted in the spirit and essence of Islam, discipline mandates that individuals adhere to established norms, regulations, and legal conventions. It is not solely the secret to the success of great individuals but also serves as the foundational pillar upon which our universe is structured. Indeed, discipline serves as the differentiating factor between humans and beasts. The discipline policy within Islam is founded upon principles gleaned from the Qur’ān and the teachings of the Prophet Muḥammad ﷺ. As adherents of Islam, we are called upon to exhibit self-discipline and noble conduct in all circumstances. Such adherence signifies Allāh's benevolence, as individuals strive for self-improvement and spiritual development. It is imperative that individuals prioritize Allāh's decrees over personal desires and aspirations, finding inspiration solely in Him. Should we forsake Islamic principles of discipline and instead rely on personal whims to formulate laws and regulations, our societal structure would resemble that of an army with multiple commanders. This study aims to affirm that the foundation of the Islamic political state rests upon discipline. Through an exploration of Prophetic teachings, this research elucidates the contemporary crisis faced by Muslims. Employing a descriptive methodology, relevant references to Prophetic teachings are utilized to substantiate this argument.
