Abstract

This article explores the religious significance of duʻā (supplication) and its multifaceted effects on human personality. It begins by establishing that duʻā is the essence of worship, as emphasized in the Qur'ān and Ḥadīth. Through duʻā, an individual disconnects from all other dependencies and turns wholeheartedly toward Allah Almighty, which reflects the true spirit of servitude. The article identifies key impacts of duʻā on human personality, such as Self-Respect, Independence, and Detachment from Creation. Duʻā nurtures a sense of self-respect and self-reliance, as the supplicant places all hopes and needs before Allah alone. This elevates the individual above the servitude of worldly entities and strengthens their dignity by fostering reliance solely on Allah. Duʻā helps individuals overcome negligence by keeping them constantly connected to their purpose of life—worshipping Allah. It motivates high aspirations, encouraging individuals to focus on productive and meaningful pursuits, while protecting them from being trapped in trivial desires. Psychological conditions such as anxiety, restlessness, and despair often stem from weak faith or disconnection from Allah. Duʻā, coupled with strong faith, instills confidence, patience, and tranquility. It fosters trust in Allah's wisdom and mercy, shielding individuals from psychological turmoil. The article concludes that duʻā is not only a source of spiritual connection but also a transformative practice that enhances self-awareness, emotional stability, and focus on higher goals, enabling individuals to lead successful and fulfilling lives both in this world and the Hereafter.
