The Culture of Dialogue and Narrative in the Holy Quran
ثقافة الحوار والقصص في القرآن
Abstract
This research explores the culture of dialogue and storytelling in the Holy Quran. “Culture” here refers to the integrated system of characteristics, objectives, and values that govern the employment of these two styles within the Quranic text. We will strive to answer fundamental questions: What makes Quranic dialogue unique and different from any other dialogue? What are the characteristics that grant Quranic storytelling its superiority, to the extent that it was described as “the best of stories”? How do they work together to achieve the supreme objectives of the Quran in guidance and upbringing? Understanding this specific Quranic culture is the essential foundational gateway to analysing the masterpieces of dialogues and stories in the Holy Quran. It becomes clear to us that the Quranic culture in dialogue and storytelling has established an integrated system of values: The value of intellect and proof, the value of drawing lessons from historical laws, the value of patience and steadfastness, the value of ethical human communication. In conclusion, the Holy Quran remains the immortal methodology that equips humanity with the highest tools of mutual understanding, infuses tranquillity into hearts, and establishes a culture of dialogue that builds human beings rather than destroying them.
